Dalton finishes seventh at Thorpe Cup

Recent BYU Track and Field graduate Chase Dalton placed seventh at the 2014 Thorpe Cup in Marburg, Germany with 7,445 points, but team USA fell to Germany 38,094 to 37,438. Dalton had the third highest score among the American competitors.

The Thorpe Cup is an international track and field competition between USA and Germany.  Teams are composed of up to seven men and seven women who compete in the decathlon and heptathlon. Athletes receive a predetermined number of points based upon their performances in each of the events in the decathlon and heptathlon. The top five men’s and top three women’s scores are added together to determine the overall men’s and women’s team winners.

Dalton was selected to represent Team USA after his fifth place finish at the USA Track and Field Championships in the decathlon. He plans to continue competing in the decathlon as a post-collegiate while his soon-to-be wife, Alyssa Monteverde, finishes her college career at BYU where she also competes in the multi-events.

Full results from the Thorpe Cup can be found here.
